| | | Edgar Allen Poe 140 Works for every poet! | myLot Discussions| His literary genius | | My father and I were discussing the works of Edgar Allen Poe. He told me his favorite was "the tell tale heart" and how much it had chilled him. He also liked "The Raven" due to the poetic words that flowed poetically. Mine are "The Pit and the Pendulum" and "The Black Cat" I really don't know why I picked these two, but they grabbed me as if a hand was reaching out of a grave somewhere in my mind. The season of Halloween pales in comparison to what E A Poe has done for the written word. Do you have a personal favorite, and why?[em]ninja[/em] | |
| | "The Raven" by edgar allan poe this poem will bring chills | | If you dont get this poem cause i didnt get it just by reading but watching this video brought deep chills in me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FID1CiB4bcUOnce upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore. And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing...
| | master of horror | | Edgar Allen Poe has to be the maste of horror. His books get inside the characters head and extract fear and bottle it up. I like the raven because its about fear and despair. I wanna read the fall of the house of usher. Whats that about? | |
| | Do you love WRITING POEMS? | | I really have this passion in writing. When I get bored, I write. When I feel sad, I write. When I'm happy, I write. I write about anything under the sun, anything I feel.
I love writing poems...Here's my poem:WHYWhy do people hurt you?
why do they lie?
Why do they say you have no right?
When they let you into their life. Why do people love?
Why do they leave?
Why do they become sad?
When you want them to be happy with you all their life. Why do they let you love them?
Why do they let them love you too?
Why do they leave you?
When you don't want to leave them too.Why do people get hurt?
Why do they feel the pain?
Why do they fool you?
When they are supposed to be loving you.Why do they make you cry?
Why do they take you for granted?
Why do they say goodbye?
When you don't have the reasons why.Why do they continue to love?
Why do they love to love?
Why do they long to be loved?
When you're loving them too much.Do you love writing poems like me? Have you written a poem? For whom?

Now I ask you Do Horror Movies Scary You? If Yes Which Movie Scared You Most?
| | crazy or gifted? | | Have you ever noticed how many of the famous people in history have had times in their life where they didn't seem mentally stable? To be precise, I'm talking about those who contributed to the world of literature, art, and science. They are geniuses, for sure. But to be a genius, can it mean you have a mental deffect as well? Let's look at Vincent Van Gogh. I'm sure many of you have either heard of how he cut one of his ears off or how he tried to eat his paint in a mental hospital. His art today is known worldwide and is studied and admired by billions. How about Edgar Allen Poe. Yes, it could have been that he was just mentally depressed and was driven to drink which led to his death (supposedly). But could it be that his dark inspiration from his life had driven him deeper into the complex depths of "insanity" and produced the beloved poems and stories we know today? Can insanity be an element to genius? They were certainly not simple minded. Can talent come from the crazy? | |
