myLot Discussions| exploring other genres of dance | | Ive been dancing since grade school. Though not devoted and consistent enough to call myself a 'dancer'. Although i've been involved with other activities/hobby like music and sports, my passion for dancing never seized. a few months ago, i decided to join fitness first. The group exercises (especially the danced-based ones like hiphop, latin, body jam, retro,belly dancing etc) enticed me. anyway i wanted to try get a taste of different dances so i usually go for bodyjam. i intend to enroll in real classes soon. i haven't decided which yet. i'm looking into jazz or flamenco. anyway, have you guys tried pole dancing or fire dancing? i'm so intrigued by them.

| | What come to your mind when we say dance? | | Hi, FriendsWhat comes to your mind when it when we say dance?First thing that probably put in my mind, a dance is a dance. Different Dances we see in the television that we called a dance. but do you consider a dance without a music?In our place, its just called a native tribe. when you got there, they have a welcome dance to their guest. It symbolized as their welcome and have to stay and feel the beauty of their nature. Wow!...they are all good, or I can say that their all kind.for 1/2 hour for dancing without a music I ask my self, will I consider it a dance without a music?...for me, yes!..even with a music or not I can say that it is a dance. | | Coming soon: Lisa Rinna's "Dance Body Beautiful" DVD set | | I just saw Lisa Rinna on the Regis and Kelly show last week. Lisa said she was planning to release an exercise DVD set utilizing ballroom dance steps as the exercise. She named all the different dances they do on "Dancing with the Stars" as dance steps she includes on the DVDs. It will be a 4 DVD set called "Dance Body Beautiful" and will be released in December 2008.I have always wanted to take ballroom dancing. Even before it was in vogue to do so. And I love Lisa Rinna. I am anxious to at least take a look at this DVD set and hear what the critics say about it. So tell me, are you interested in this DVD set? Do you think you would use it if you bought it? | |
| | A womens right to change her mind? | | Ok, I shared and taught this dance last night, but had a surprise pupil, my daughter.. She knew for 2 months that I was going to teach this dance, (which we both did 4 years ago, but I changed it to make it easier), and all along I have been practicing and inviting her to practice also if she would like to help me..Well, it wasn’t until the beginning of this week, that she even said she was going. So, I asked quite a few more times if she would like to practice this dance, then I thought, well,maybe she no longer has an interest in dance, I won’t push it..On the way there last night, she even had plans to do some drawing, keeping to herself.. I thought that was fine, though in the back of my mind, I am nervous teaching this dance, all by myself.. (When I taught years ago, my daughter would help me, this would have been the first time I was on my own)So, we get there and another person had a dance to share and my son shared this song..Then it was time for me and guess who was right there? Yep, my daughter.. Instead of relearning this dance at home, she was going to right there..lol. So we went through it, many were surprised at how fast paced it was, even though I warned... | |
| | Katha Dance Theatre | | This is a group from the Country of India. They were at the Minnesiota State Fair giving free performances. The one dance I loved was called the welcoming of spring. They told the story of how the dancers sprinkle colorful dust upon the land representing the rainbow. All sorts of neat dances. I have many photos too add to the responses. The band had a Sitar, Drums, and a few other hand held insturments as well as a keyboard for various computer generated sounds. The show was about 1 hour long and consisted of a few different dances and songs dealing with the Indian Culture. A few folk songs which I loved the most as well. It was very entertaining and we all enjoyed it to the fullest. Even my grandsons seemed to enjoy the dancers. | |
| | Is it normal to cry when you are proud of your daughter? | | Tonight my 16 year old daughter had her dance recital. She danced in three different dances, ballet, tap, and jazz. I cried up a storm everytime I saw her on the stage and saw how well she did. Is this normal? She has had 13 recitals before, one a year, and I cry everytime. I don't see anybody else crying. I also tend to cry sometimes when she cheers and is the flyer. My daughter is embarressed by my crying. Any ideas how I can stop? | |
| | Historical? Arts? | | Is there any type of historical bridge of this type in your area? Does your city have much of an Art type culture also? Does the city have different free arts events where you're at? Minneapolis is a very history orientated city and also an artsy type of city. This is the Stone Arch bridge in The Riverfront Park of Minneapolis. There is not a better ground-level (or water-level) spot for a panoramic view of the Mississippi River and the surrounding area of the Minneapolis Riverfront than on this bridge. Built in 1883 by James J. Hill's Minneapolis Union Railway Company, this durable structure was repaved and opened as a pedestrian walkway and bike trail in 1994. The result is an attractive and casual byway that connects the downtown area to the St. Anthony side of the river, with Mill Ruins Park located at the west end of the bridge and Hennepin Bluff Park on the east end. Recognized as a National Civil Engineering Landmark, the span consists of 23 arches constructed from native granite and limestone. The bridge is part of the St. Anthony Falls Heritage Trail, and from its midpoint you can see almost every area landmark, particularly the Upper and Lower falls. The site is ideal... | |
