| | myLot Discussions| Poems...do you like them? can you make one? | | Because I Could Not Stop for Death—
He kindly stopped for me—
The Carriage held but just Ourselves—
And Immortality. We slowly drove—He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility—We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess—in the Ring—
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain—
We passed the Setting Sun—Or rather—he passed us—
The Dews drew quivering & chill—
For only Gossamer, my Gown—
My Tippet—only Tulle—We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground—
The Roof was scarcely visible—
The Cornice—in the Ground—Since then—'tis Centuries—and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity—by Emily Dickinson...100 greatest poems...I really like poems...do you?

If I was ever asked the question “what makes a poem a poem?” the first response to come to my mind would be the use of metaphors. Most poems are dependant on their metaphors because without them they would be open, bland and lacking. The art of poetry is to intrigue the reader and push them to look further, deeper for the unseen meaning. Just imagine reading a poem and all the emotion, truth, and meaning of the poem is being laid out for easy understanding and no real thought is involved in interpretation. Without the metaphors poetry is an open book, while still beautiful, the mystery is gone and with it goes the main factor of why poetry is such a unique art.Poetry is, first of all, a communication - a thought or message conveyed by the writer to the reader. It is not only an act of creation, but an act of sharing. It is therefore important to the reader that he understands how the poet uses words, how he puts fresh vigor and new meaning into words. The reader's understanding is immeasurably increased if he is familiar with the many techniques or devices of poetry. Some of these are extremely simple; a few are...
| | Have you gotten so nervouse you could not stop bitting your nails? | | When I get nervouse I bit my nails alot. I hate biting my nails Because It wears them down so much. Somtimes I just can't help it. I don't mean to bit my nails but it just happens by habbit. It's a embarassing habbit because my nails are a not long and look all jagged from me bitting them. I am tring to take vitiams to help them grow and repair them selves. I really want pretty heathy nails but if I keep thus up I won't have any nails left. Which really stinks. The vitiams I have been taking are making my nails stronger. They are also giving me more energy which is a good plus. I am thinking about buying some no bite for my nails. I heard that it's suppose to work good and keep you from wanting go bite your nails.s therefore important to the reader that he understands how the poet uses words, how he puts fresh vigor and new meaning into words. The reader's understanding is immeasurably increased if he is familiar with the many techniques or devices of poetry. Some of these are extremely simple; a few are rather elaborate.
The simplest and also the most effective poetic device is the use of comparison. It might almost be said that...

| | Have you ever talked to someone on the phone that would not stop talking! | | I have recieved phone calls from people that I would rather not talk to. The reason being it is harder than heck to get them off the phone. Sometimes I just get so irritated I want to hang up the phone on them but I cannot because of how rude it would be to do that. I try to make excuses like I have to do something and the person on the other end says they will hold on. Some people are so board their whole life revolves around a phone. They becomeaddicted like they are on drugs. I hate when board individuals have nothing to do but be on the phone. It becomes a problem to everyone they talk to. The reason is because they are so reliant on the phone that when noone answers they call like five to ten times in a row. If you don't answer they call someone else. It gets to be so bad that you don't want answer your own phone! I don't want to offend the person calling but sometimes it get pretty over welming from all the phone calls. Some people need a hobbie and be more active. | |

| | | 17 more states planning Ariz. 'illegal' crackdown | | In what is developing into a standoff between states and the federal government that could be bigger than gun control or even health care, 17 states have launched versions of Arizona's immigration law, even as federal officials say they may not bother to process illegal aliens caught by the states.William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, which has been trying to get officials to address the open southern border for years, warned the consequences could be dire."Over the last couple days, Obama and the chief of ICE have refused to honor their oaths of office," he said. "Their constitutional requirement is to enforce existing laws."They've told the American public to go eat cake," he said. His organization is assembling the list of state efforts to emulate the Arizona law, which makes it illegal under state as well as federal law to be in the state without documentation."Seventeen states are now filing versions of Arizona's SB 1070, which is designed to help local police enforce America's existing immigration laws," ALIPAC said in a report today. The report said numerous national and local polls indicate 60 to 81 percent of Americans... | |
| | Brake froze; could not stop car | | I was driving back to my side of the river today (technically yesterday afternoon) and halfway down the exit ramp my car stalled. It has been running hot so this was not entirely surprising. No big deal, I figured I would just coast around to the bottom (the ramp swirls in a spiral) stop the car and then see if the motor would start up again. (I carry a jug of water just in case.)Well, before I could get all the way down, the brake locks up on me and I am having trouble controlling the car. You have to understand, I have had dreams like this since before I ever even owned a car and I am always very careful. As I get closer to the bottom the car starts going to the left and I end up against the wall of the exit ramp. I was trying to steer to the right but the car would not cooperate.Fortunately it was not going too fast and I stopped about 5 car lengths from the bottom of the ramp. It was also fortunately not a very busy time of day so there was not much traffic. Breathless and shaken, I pulled out my mobile and called my mechanic. The steering wheel had also locked and I couldn't get it freed and I could not even turn the key in the ignition! While I waited to be... | |
